I scored two of these great rattan chairs for $30 each! I thought they were a really great deal. My family and friends thought they were perfect for our little lakehouse. They were a bit horrified when I suggested that I was going to paint them...hehehehe.
They even tried to talk me out of it and I have to confess that it was hard to make the final decision but in the end I knew they would fit in better with the overall design if I lightened their color. One evening I decided the time had come.
I painted the first coat with a brush. It took a bit of work to get the paint down into the little cracks and crevices between the weave of the rattan. I could have just sprayed the whole thing but I wanted to be sure to get a really good coat of paint on each chair. After that dried then I sprayed them for a final coat of paint. This covered all the little areas that the brush couldn't reach and gave it a really pretty finish. I think they turned out great and now they fit into my lakehouse design perfectly.
I like to use a pillow on the back of each chair because they are so deep in the seat. This makes each chair sit much more comfortable. I found a pillow that is perfect for the job. There is only one problem with it...
I could only find one! So...I have been checking every TJ Maxx, Marshall's, and Home Goods that I come across looking for another. I even have my daughter and friend looking for me too. Why do I always seem to find myself in this position...one pillow short of perfect? Oh well, I do have a plan B in the event we can't find another. I will just recover the old brown leather looking pillows that we were using before.

Wow, those chairs turned out great! I hope you find another pillow, or find some material to make two matching ones for the chairs.
Your lakeside cottage is very pretty and must be such a blessing to live in while you are there.

Hi Deborah,
Wow your chairs look amazing. You did a great job redoing them.
I co-host a blog party on Monday called Cooking and Crafting with J&J.
We would love to have you join and share this or any other projects.
Thanks.
